Gummy Smile Correction Dallas

Create the Perfect Frame for Your Teeth

Your gums should be a subtle frame for your teeth — not the star of the show! However, if your gums are too large or uneven, they could attract undue attention and make your teeth appear unusually short. Our Dallas cosmetic dentistry team can help! We offer gummy smile correction via a minimally invasive procedure known as gum recontouring. Continue reading to learn more, or contact our office directly to set up a consultation.

Why Choose Arts Family Dentistry of Dallas for Gum Recontouring?

What Is Gum Recontouring?

Woman’s smile before and after gum recontouring

Gum recontouring is a minor surgical procedure, during which we use special instruments, such as a soft tissue laser, to remove excess gum tissue and create a more aesthetically pleasing frame for the teeth.

Gum recontouring can be referred to by a few different names, including gum contouring, gingivoplasty, or crown lengthening. (Technically, crown lengthening is a slightly different procedure, but the terms are sometimes used interchangeably.)

How Does Gum Recontouring Work?

We want you to be comfortable, so one of the first things we will do during your appointment is numb your mouth. If you are particularly nervous, we might also suggest that you be sedated by nitrous oxide.

Then, your cosmetic dentist will start your gummy smile correction. Often, wonderful results can be achieved with the removal of only a very small amount of tissue. The instruments we use are precise, so we can make the procedure as minimally invasive as possible.

Depending on the extent of your gum recontouring, it might take place across one or more appointments.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Gummy Smile Correction?

You might be a candidate for gummy smile correction if you have excess gum tissue or an uneven gumline. You should also be free of active gum disease (other gum procedures can be used to improve your appearance and your health if gum disease is a concern).

Also, keep in mind that not all gummy smiles are due to extra gum tissue. If your aesthetic concerns are because your upper lip retracts too far when you smile, gum recontouring may not be able to help you.

Our team will consider all relevant factors before we determine if gum recontouring is a good fit for your circumstances.
