Search for a way to fill a gap in your smile and you will find moldable beads, wax kits and paste on temporary teeth, most under thirty dollars, most with confident reviews. We understand the appeal completely. Losing a visible tooth is embarrassing and a real restoration costs real money.
We would rather explain the actual risk than lecture, because the problem with these products is not that they look bad. It is what they do underneath.
They Do Not Stop the Thing That Matters
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone that supported its root stops being stimulated and begins to shrink. Within the first year, a meaningful share of that bone width is gone. The teeth on either side start tilting toward the space, and the tooth above or below drifts down into it.
A wax or polymer insert fills the visual gap and does nothing about any of that. Two years of a DIY tooth is two years of bone loss and drifting, and it makes the eventual real treatment harder, longer and more expensive than it needed to be. That is the actual cost, and it does not appear until later.
The More Immediate Problems
