For Dr. Shayan Azimi, dentistry has always been about more than fixing teeth. It is about solving problems, earning trust, and helping people feel comfortable receiving care they may have avoided for years.

Why he practises this way
His interest in dentistry was shaped in part by his own experiences as a child. After dental visits that left him anxious and fearful of treatment, he became passionate about approaching dentistry differently, creating an environment where patients feel heard, informed, respected and genuinely comfortable. That philosophy is still how he practises and it is how Arts Family Dentistry was built.
From engineering to dentistry
Originally from Tehran, Iran, Dr. Azimi moved to the United States with his family in 2010. The path from engineering student to dentist and practice owner shaped how he approaches both dentistry and life: with curiosity, persistence and a constant desire to improve on the last attempt.
Dr. Azimi began his academic career at Arizona State University, where he earned his degree in Biomedical Engineering. That background strengthened his appreciation for science, technology, precision and problem solving, all of which translated naturally into dentistry. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine.
Dental mission work
Service has played an important part in his career. During dental school he took part in three international dental mission trips, to Jamaica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, providing free dental care in communities with very limited access to it. Those trips strengthened his belief that dentistry can make an immediate difference to a person's health, confidence and quality of life.
Training beyond dental school
He has continued advanced clinical education throughout his career, with extensive training in endodontics, oral surgery, dental emergency management and implant dentistry. In 2022 he completed intensive Live Implant Training with Dr. Virgil Mongalo, working on live patients, and he has since been named a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
What patients can expect
What patients tend to appreciate most goes beyond the credentials. Modern dentistry, straightforward conversation and no judgement, particularly for people who are nervous or have not seen a dentist in years.
Today, as an owner and dentist at Arts Family Dentistry, he looks after families across Dallas while building the kind of practice he wishes had existed when he was the nervous one in the chair.
