Why professional whitening is different from a strip
Whitening works by letting a peroxide gel lift staining out of the enamel. The concentration available to a dentist is higher than anything sold over the counter, and it is applied to your teeth rather than through a one-size strip.
The bigger difference is what happens first. Whitening over plaque gives a patchy result, and whitening over decay or an exposed root causes real pain. A clean and a check take that risk away.
It is also worth knowing what will not change. Crowns, veneers and fillings do not whiten, so if you have any at the front, the plan needs to account for that or you end up with a mismatch.

What it costs, and how people pay
Price depends on what you actually need, so we look first and tell you the number before anything starts. What we can tell you now is how it gets paid for.
- Insured. In network with most major PPO plans, and your benefits get checked before treatment is planned.
- Medicaid or CHIP. Both accepted, which a lot of Dallas practices will not do.
- No insurance. Our membership plan covers cleanings, exams and routine x-rays from $30 a month, with 20% off other treatment.
- Larger treatment. Cherry, Sunbit and HFD payment plans spread the cost.
Teeth Whitening questions
- How long does teeth whitening last?
- Usually months to a couple of years, and it depends almost entirely on diet and smoking. Coffee, tea and red wine bring the staining back fastest. Top-ups are normal rather than a sign it failed.
- Does whitening damage enamel?
- Professional whitening used correctly is not considered to damage enamel. Sensitivity during treatment is common and temporary. The risk comes from unsupervised use of high strength products, which is a good reason to have it done properly.
- Will my crowns and fillings whiten too?
- No. Dental work keeps its original shade, so if you have visible crowns or fillings at the front the plan has to account for that. We check before you start rather than after.
- Why not just use strips from the store?
- You can, and for light staining they do something. They are lower strength, they do not fit your teeth, and nobody has checked first that you do not have decay or an exposed root where the gel will hurt.
